Combine the Stevens/Nicklin Boreal Forest & the Courage Lake Tundra Expedition! The Sub-Boreal forest Outpost, Stevens/Nicklin, & the Tundra (Barrenlands) of Courage Lake offer two vastly different terrains and experiences of Northern Manitoba. Both terrains are colorful and breathtaking in the fall but each unique in their own right.

Transportation

Air transportation from Winnipeg with expediting service to the main lodge.

Floatplane transportation from NSRL to Stevens/Nicklin, and then to the Barren Grounds mini-lodge on Courage Lake, 90 miles (145 km) north.

Lodging

Warm and personalized, with cozy small lodge facilities and a heated cabin per every two guests at Courage; modern accommodations with a central facility and a solar system. At 5-star Stevens/Nicklin Outpost, two deluxe 4 person cabins with two fully modern bathrooms.

Meals

Great meals including the incredible Canadian Shore Lunch — fresh fish, potatoes and onions cooked over an open fire.

Wildlife

The Sub-Boreal forest and habitat surrounding Stevens/Nicklin are prime moose habitat. Many gigantic specimens have been spotted. In the same area will also be black bears, wolverines and timber wolves.

At Courage, Arctic wolves and wolverines are fairly common as they haunt the area around Courage, a main travel corridor for the Kaminuriak caribou herd. Keep your eyes peeled for a rare Barrenlands Grizzly.

Guided days for Caribou viewing when migration is in the area.

Birding

The North Seal and Courage Lake areas have been studied extensively by the Manitoba Bird Atlas and we encourage you to add to our checklist of the many species that frequent this area.

Esker Tours

Tour the eskers in both regions. The famed Robertson Esker actually runs prominently thru Egenolf Lake, then travels 120 miles to just west of Courage in the Manitoba tundra. You will find the eskers in both regions to be breath-taking. These eskers have been used for centuries by the caribou and ancient hunters who followed them. You never know what you will find.
