The Sub-Arctic is
Awash with life
The North Seal area is the transitional Sub-Boreal forest, stretching from the 58th up near the 60th parallel, with over 100 lakes and 12 rivers throughout the entire ecosystem.
Polar Bears
Polar Bears are one of the largest mammals in Northern Manitoba and can weigh up to 1000 lbs. Gangler’s offers a special combination option to the famous seaport of Churchill to see these magnificent creatures up close.

Grizzlies
Barren Ground Grizzlies are a rare sub-species of its more popular western cousin. While not quite as big, they still grow to over 800 lbs. and over 8’ long. A ferocious bear due to its tough environment, grizzlies are rare but have been spotted at both the North Seal and Courage Lake areas.
Black Bears
Common in Northern Manitoba black bears grow large up here and can weigh up to 600 lbs. The North Seal area is renowned for having rare color phase black bears with chocolate, cinnamon, honey-blonde, and the extremely rare white. Many will mistake a huge colored black bear for a grizzly.
Manitoba Moose
Moose are the largest mammals in Northern Manitoba and can weigh over 1400 lbs. and stand 9 feet at the shoulder. They are an awe-inspiring sight. Gangler’s guests often see these magnificent creatures up close. Mothers and calves love crossing rivers and lakes by the shores. The North Seal watershed is prime moose habitat.
Manitoba Wolf
There are two types of wolves in Manitoba. The native breed would be the timber wolf, which frequents the North Seal area. At Courage Lake, the Arctic wolves circulate and travel down in the fall following the caribou. Our habitats are excellent opportunities for photographing wolves in their true natural habitat.

Central Barren Ground Caribou
Our areas are home to the Kaminuriak caribou herd, North America’s largest. 300,000 animals have migrated annually for thousands of years from their calving grounds in Nunavut to spend the fall and winter in Manitoba. The migration passes right through Courage Lake and guests will walk in their ancient trails and perhaps even spot a wandering ‘boo (or 100)!

Beluga Whales
Beluga whales are one of the highlights of Northern Manitoba in July and August. Over 60,000 of these beautiful creatures migrate into the Churchill region of Hudson Bay every summer. They are incredibly social and just as curious about you as you are about them.
