The views of the night sky at Gangler’s are simply spectacular and the envy of most places on earth. Being located hundreds of miles from even the smallest community means zero light pollution. The darkness of the night sky (or conversely, the level of light pollution) is rated on the Bortle Scale, ranging from Bortle 1 (perfect, dark sky) to Bortle 9 (light polluted inner city). The Gangler’s sky is a Bortle 1, providing some of the best night sky viewing opportunities on the planet.
Look Up, Soak it In
While the northern lights will certainly be a highlight of your experience at Gangler’s, so too will be the incredible views of the constellations and planets. Look up from a vantage point on top of the 200-foot tall sand esker near the lodge for a panoramic view. See planets such as Jupiter and Saturn with your naked eyes. Better yet, take a look through Gangler’s high powered telescope. See the color bands on Jupiter and the rings of Saturn. When looking through our telescope at the Moon, you almost feel that you are in orbit looking down on its crater-filled surface. Get up close and personal with our solar system. And because of the perfect darkness of our skies, you can even see some of the larger deep space objects such as the Andromeda Galaxy, with your naked eye. Andromeda is the largest and closest galaxy to our home, the Milky Way Galaxy, and is located 2.5 million light years (14,725,000 trillion miles) from here.
Explore our solar system, galaxy and the universe from the dark sky, 5-star comfort of Gangler’s.
