Caretakers Report Volume 2

“I got to experience Caribou constantly migrating…”

  • Cory, Gangler’s Lodge Caretaker

Hey everyone, it’s Cory here with a mid winter caretaker report, going into December up here at the lodge, we experienced above seasonal temperatures which made the month very enjoyable with many hours being spent outside. The end of November and month of December was a very unique time up here with the migration of the Caribou happening.

For about two weeks I got to experience Caribou constantly migrating around the lodge by the hundreds daily. The Caribou coming through attracted local hunters coming around the lodge to hunt for their families. Many of these hunters travel 12 hours by snowmobile from their small communities.

With the mild temperatures, I was able to spend a lot of my free time ice fishing, and capturing some photographs of the Caribou as well as keeping up on my Camp work. The daylight hours in December where very minimal with many days of overcast and a short window to be outside with some light.

Closing in to the end of December, the Caribou have made their way through and headed further South and the temperatures are starting to drop with a little more snowfall. It’s starting to feel like an arctic winter now.
