Quick Packing Guide for Your Canadian Wilderness Lodge Stay

Quick Packing Guide for Your Canadian Wilderness Lodge Stay

A key part of a luxury wilderness experience is knowing what to pack. This quick packing guide for your Canadian wilderness lodge stay will help you prepare for a memorable excursion into the heart of Canada’s subarctic wilderness.

The Subarctic Zone Experiences Summer

Your trip to Gangler’s luxury wilderness lodge takes place during the subarctic’s brief but beautiful late summer season. The days might be warm, but nights can be chilly. Bring lightweight, long pants, one short-sleeved shirt, and a few long-sleeved ones. You’ll also need a versatile jacket with a fleece zip-out lining. A good rainsuit, one with a breathable water-resistant shell, is a must. You’ll also need polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellant.

Love Your Layers

Layering is the key to comfort in the subarctic. Pack versatile clothing you can layer. Your base should be wool or polypropylene, not cotton. Mid-layer shirts should be long-sleeved, but you could get away with one short-sleeved T-shirt in case of an unusually warm day. Bring a hooded, water-resistant rain suit for your outer layer. Even if not raining, it acts as a great wind breaker when traveling on the lake.

Know the Weight Limit

When traveling to remote wilderness lodges, bear in mind the strict weight limitations on luggage in fly-in planes—a maximum of 60 lbs. per person. Remember that your luggage includes your carry-on and suitcase. Pack smart by bringing only essentials and multi-purpose wearables, and leave heavy items at home.

Prepare for Precipitation

Rain can fall unexpectedly in the subarctic, so bring a good rain suit. You should also bring a waterproof carryon bag for electronics and other items.

Have Happy Feet

Keeping your feet warm and dry is crucial in a subarctic environment, so invest in insulated, water resistant boots comfortable for hiking. Don’t forget to pack several pairs of moisture-wicking, synthetic and wool socks to keep your feet warm and dry. A nice casual boot or sneaker is also good for relaxing around the lodge.

Photographic Equipment

Gangler’s Subarctic tours offer some of the most thrilling photographic opportunities you can imagine. Keep in mind, however, that photographic equipment is included in the weight limits for our charter planes. Those arriving on private planes may be able to transport more personal equipment. Please contact the lodge for more specifics about transporting photography equipment.

Chargers, Prescriptions, and Hats

Don’t forget essentials like chargers for your electronic devices, prescription medications, and a hat for sun protection. While our attentive staff strive to fulfill guest requests, we have no corner pharmacy! The only way to go shopping for something you forgot is by floatplane. The nearest road is 320 kilometers away!
