It was magical !!!
Sep 2024 • Couples I truly don’t know where to start with this review. My husband and I spent four nights at Gangler’s and it was everything I could have hoped for. It’s a journey from Wisconsin to Winnipeg and then another two hours north on their chartered plane into the wilderness landing on their private runway. It’s worth the journey and money to experience the northern lights, wolves, eskers, helicopter ride, float plane ride, fishing and remote area of the sub arctic. If asked what was the best part I’d have to say all of it. The staff are a well oiled machine serving great gourmet meals (I’m lactose intolerant and had great meals and desserts without dairy!), cleaning your rooms and tending the well stocked bar (Peggy) The helicopter pilot (Stephanie) had such skill circling the caribou out on the tundra. The guided staff for daily hikes (Seasoned Ken, Linda and Dr. Brian) all brought a unique perspective to the flora and fauna and their knowledge was invaluable. Our fishing guide Tin Tin was not only a great guide helping us bring in Walleyes and Northern Pike but was also humorous and makes a delicious shore lunch.
The individual cabins are quiet, comfortable and offer everything you need for a relaxing stay (yes they have a hair dryer but bring conditioner). They had bug nets and rain gear if you need it but we had our own. The bugs were there but not a true nuisance at all. The lodge has a huge fireplace and plenty of comfortable seating to discuss all your grand adventures the day delivered. We even had time to enjoy the outdoor fire pit overlooking Egenolf Lake. I felt like young girl with my camera when viewing the northern lights, turning from one location to another to get the perfect shot. They were like a beautifully choreographed ballet that swirled and morphed around us for over an hour.
It’s true Linda can howl just like a wolf and we had the luxury of having her call a wolf for us late at night. They even have a wake up service for northern lights so you aren’t obligated to stay up all night. We brought several layers of clothing, hiking boots, think gloves and a light weight backpack for day hikes.
Owner Ken has built a spectacular lodge and resort that offers a true Eco experience. Take advantage of it and enjoy the solitude with only 26 guests and a one to one staff ratio. Read my reviews and you’ll see I tell it like it is. It’s magical.
