Winter Still Hanging in at Ganglers

Winter Is Still Hanging In! The last vestiges of winter are finally departing Northern Manitoba (we hope!). Yes, it’s nearly the end of May yet winter has chosen to hang on! Gangler’s Lodge winter caretaker Jamie mentioned he is seeing a see-saw pattern of melting and freezing over the last two weeks with daytime temps still hovering around 0º C (32º F) and nighttime temps are still below freezing. A warming trend keeps teasing us and hopefully settles in for good by next week. Our ice-out is definitely on the late side. The real story of the winter has been the amount of snowfall we’ve received. We still have areas with up to 4’ of snow with some drifts as high as 8’. We’d guesstimate this to be 40% more than normal. These mid April photos show the snowfall halfway up the cabin screens and staff door at the lodge. All of this snow should mean excellent lake levels for our summer and fall explorations. While checking out Blackfish Lake, Jamie got another photo and video of caribou crossing Blackfish Lake. The caribou have been plentiful in our area this winter and we hope that indicates a strong migration for our Caribou trips in the Fall. 2020 Season Update and Reservations Bookings/Promotions 2020 Book your trip now for 2020 and we’ll give you a credit towards complimentary Global Rescue IMG Signature Plus Travel Insurance with the “Cancel for any Reason” upgrade (a value of over $500!).
